  1. The United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO)’s World Kiswahili Language Day is annually celebrated across the globe on 7 July to recognize the role of Kiswahili language as a language of unity. The Theme of World Kiswahili Language Day 2023 is “Unleashing Kiswahili’s potential in the digital era”.  
  2. Tech giant Google is set to appoint manufacturing and policy veteran and a former Apple executive, Sreenivasa Reddy as its top government affairs executive in India.
  3. According to the 17th edition of the annual Global Peace Index 2023, released by the Institute for Economics and Peace, Iceland remains the most peaceful country in the world since 2008 and Afghanistan is the least peaceful country in the world for fifth consecutive year.
  4. Meta, the owner of Instagram, has introduced a new social media platform called ‘Threads’ and described it as a “new, separate space for real-time updates and public conversations”.
  5. Aadhav Arjuna, the President of the Tamil Nadu Basketball Association (TNBA), defeated the incumbent President, K Govindaraj, in the election held at Nehru Stadium and secured the position of President of the Basketball Federation of India (BFI).
  6. Geographical Indication Registry (Chennai, Tamil Nadu) has recognised seven Handicrafts products from Uttar Pradesh with Geographical Indication (GI) Tag. They are Amroha Dholak, Kalpi Handmade Paper, Baghpat Home Furnishings, Barabanki Handloom Product, Mahoba Gaura Patthar Hastashlip, Mainpuri Tarkashi, and Sambhal Horn Craft.
  7. Home Minister Amit Shah virtually laid the foundation stone of Shri Motibhai R. Chaudhary Sagar Sainik School in Boriyavi village of Mehsana, Gujarat and it will become the first Sainik School in India to be operated by a cooperative organization.
  8. Scientists from Bangladesh and Mauritius recently embarked onboard India’s research vessel ‘Sagar Nidhi’ to participate in a joint ocean expedition spanning nearly 35 days, which took place under the framework of Colombo Security Conclave (CSC) between the nations of the Indian Ocean Region.
  9. The seventh edition of the bilateral Japan-India Maritime Exercise 2023 (JIMEX 23) is taking place from 5 to 10 July, 2023 in Visakhapatnam, India which aims to enhance the interoperability and cooperation between the Japanese Maritime Self Defence Force (JMSDF) and the Indian Navy.
  10. West Indies have failed to qualify in the men’s 50-over Cricket World Cup for the first time after a comprehensive seven-wicket loss to Scotland.
  11. Piramal Finance, a leading housing finance company, has taken a significant step towards empowering women by opening its first all-women branch called ‘Maitreyi’ in Tripunithura, a suburban area in Kochi.
  12. Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated the National Sickle Cell Anaemia Eradication Mission 2047 in Lalpur village of Madhya Pradesh.
  13. During the launch of the Bharat 6G Alliance in New Delhi, Communications and Information Technology Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw announced that, India has taken a significant stride forward in the field of telecommunications, with the acquisition of over 200 patents for 6G technology.
  14. During India-EU Aviation summit held at New Delhi, the Director General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) has signed a MoU with the European Union Aviation Safety Agency (EASA) for cooperation in unmanned aircraft and systems and innovative air mobility.
  15. Indore Municipal Corporation (IMC) in Madhya Pradesh has made history by becoming the first urban body in the country to receive Extended Producers Responsibility (EPR) credit for recycling banned single-use plastic items.
  16. Triveni Continental Kings were crowned champions of inaugural Global Chess League after defeating Mumba Masters.
